The Swiss Alps
La Tzoumaz, at an altitude of 1550m, is one of the true hidden gems of the Swiss Alps offering immediate access to the world famous Verbier’s chic ski area but with none of the queues. It is a peaceful, family resort with excellent ski conditions for all abilities where you will want to come back to again and again. Located immediately adjacent to Verbier, it shares the same lift system with the new 8 man ultra-fast gondola to the top of the Savoleyres slopes being 100m from the chalet. Even in the busiest times the maximum wait is 8-10 minutes compared to over an hour in Verbier itself.
The chalet is positioned immediately adjacent to the piste slope in a private situation with fabulous views over the resort. A private funicular lift will take you the 20m to the piste edge from where it is an easy ski down to the main lift and ski school.
The north facing orientation ensures snow cover from early December until the end of April, while the gentle and sunny slopes on the south side of the mountain are perfect for relaxed skiing and for those on a hot chocolate crawl between mountain restaurants. It is an ideal place to learn and for confidence building and the Swiss ski school at the bottom of the Savoleyres lifts can provide excellent instruction, whether for group lessons or private ones. Other companies from Verbier come to the La Tzoumaz slopes too to make the most of the emptier, wide slopes. La Tzoumaz also offers some more challenging red runs with a wonderful 4km descent through varied terrain, as well as a vast amount of safe off-piste skiing. For those seeking more challenging runs, it is easy to cut across and join the Verbier lift system half way up the mountain gaining access to more than 400 km of runs but avoiding the bottle neck of queues at the bottom.
In April, sometimes the afternoons are warm and sunny and the village opens the local tennis court which is in a spectacular setting with breathtaking vistas. The court is a close kept secret but easily booked at the tourist office, where racquets and balls can also be hired. The tourist office also hires snow shoes and advises on the numerous local walking trails which are very popular.
90 minutes from Geneva
La Tzoumaz is just 90 minutes from Geneva and 25 minutes from Sion airport; the latter is available via private jet. Alternative airports within easy reach are Turin (110 km) or Milan (130 km).
The transfer from Geneva is an easy drive or a train journey. Taxi transfer can also be arranged.
The chalet has 2 guest parking space in a heated garage which means if you hire a car you keep it snow free and can consider trips out like to explore the historic centre of Sion.
